In 1998 a
monumental undertaking was the development of specifications and
subsequent release of a bid for solid waste collection to service 13
SHACOG communities for a five (5) year period beginning in 1999. The
specifications were tailored to each municipality’s needs, including
recycling, and each municipality can choose either a per-ton or per-unit
rate, whichever is less. The combined contract for all 13 eligible
municipalities will include more than 60,000 units or households, and be
worth $20 million over the five year period. Based on prices being paid
at the time of the bid, the 5-year savings for the participating
municipalities will be approximately $1 million. SHACOG will now assume
responsibility for this collective effort and release a new bid for this
contract in 2003. |
