Allegheny County is a
major subcontractor with the Department of Housing and Urban Development
for the Federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. The
County, in turn, contracts with SHACOG for administration of the CDBG
program in our member municipalities. This responsibility entails
everything from receiving the project pre-application to administration
of the construction contract when work on the approved project is under
way. Projects can include storm sewer repairs, sanitary sewer
rehabilitation, recreation improvements, senior citizen accommodations,
demolitions and physical adjustments required by the ADA. During the
most recent CDBG funding cycle, SHACOG municipalities received more than
$550,000.00 that leveraged $1.2 million in construction contracts.
